What contribution do you see yourself making to the Young Professionals Council and the SAIMM? :
As a member of the Young Professionals Council (YPC) within the Southern Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), I envision myself actively contributing by strengthening the membership program through the "Leave No Student Behind" campaign. Here are specific areas where I can make a significant impact:
- Enhanced Membership Engagement: I plan to take a proactive approach in engaging first-year engineering students at various universities, aligning with the campaign's goal to ensure that students feel welcomed and valued. This includes organizing interactive booths during orientation week, providing insights about the benefits of YPC membership, and facilitating networking opportunities.
- Mentorship Initiatives: By participating in the mentorship program, I aim to bridge the gap between new students and experienced professionals. I will assist in pairing first-year students with mentors, organizing regular check-ins, and hosting networking events that will foster ongoing relationships within the YPC community.
Feedback Mechanism: Implementing a feedback system will be crucial for assessing the needs and experiences of students. I will help gather insights through surveys and discussions to continuously refine and improve the membership program, ensuring it remains relevant and valuable.

Currently, I am involved in various activities that promote the YPC vision and initiatives:
- Coordination of SAIMM YPC at UJ: I attend and contribute to YPC events organized by SAIMM, focusing on skill development and industry insights. This participation helps in establishing a knowledge-sharing culture and strengthens the professional network among young engineers.
- Volunteering for SAIMM YPC events: I regularly volunteer for various SAIMM events, assisting in logistics and organization. My involvement ensures the smooth execution of activities that connect students and professionals.

Brief career history:
Meta Jonathan Mvita is a dedicated PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering at the University of Johannesburg, expected to complete the program in 2026. Before this, he pursued a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Extraction Metallurgy from 2023 to 2024. He holds a Bachelor Honours degree in Metallurgy, also from the same institution, completed in 2022. Since 2023, Jonathan has served as a researcher, contributing to significant advancements in the field of engineering. Over the years, he lectured on modules including Coal Processing, Refractory Technology, Advanced Reaction Engineering, and Multi-Stage Operations, demonstrating a strong commitment to education. Jonathan has authored 14 peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, showcasing his research contributions and expertise in metallurgy and chemical engineering. The work focuses on sustainable practices and innovative solutions within the field, positioning him as a promising researcher and educator. Fascinated by Artificial intelligence concepts, programming, and statistics, MVITA believes in imparting the skills developed in relation to the use of intelligent system
